Digital Data Security Leader BackStopp™ Taps Calypso
Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based Calypso Communications, a full-service marketing, public relations, and graphic design firm, recently was selected by BackStopp USA, also based in Portsmouth with affiliates in Sheffield, United Kingdom, to provide product brand management, retail packaging design, and strategic marketing services for its innovative suite of data security and destruction products.
Backstopp allows organizations and individuals to execute the remote deletion of data files on any lost or stolen PC, laptop, PDA, or mobile phone through mobile networks, the Internet, or with radio-frequency identification (RFID). The technology employs U.S. Department of Defense standards to ensure the rapid and comprehensive destruction of targeted data; using BackStopp, the average laptop is cleansed in just 100 seconds.
BackStopp is always “on,” regardless of Internet connectivity, integrating culprit identification capability with volume-based file encryption and a secure online backup service so data can be easily reloaded onto new devices. Of specific interest to corporate, institutional, and governmental clients, the company’s software can inform BackStopp when a device with wireless or RFID capabilities moves outside permitted areas. BackStopp will then either automatically decommission the device or alert the legitimate user by text message.
BackStopp also includes a “Device Holiday” feature that specifies legitimate dates for a laptop to be turned off. If activated too early, Backstopp will either delete the data or send a text alert. Devices with webcams even allow BackStopp to photograph culprits.
