PORTSMOUTH, N.H., November 3, 2011 – The latest PechaKucha Portsmouth Night, “Everybody Eats,” co-sponsored by Calypso Communications and STREET eat/drink 360’ is slated for Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 7pm. PechaKucha, pronounced pet-cha-ku-cha and meaning the sounds of chit-chat in Japanese, has brought Seacoast people together under a simple premise of sharing concepts, inspirations, and motivations through a creative, fun conversation with 20 presentation slides, giving each slide no more than 20 seconds.

Calypso Communications (www.calypsocom.com), a strategic marketing and public relations firm and STREET eat/drink 360’, the hip new restaurant serving local organic food prepared with flavors from around the world are expecting more than their typical 100 in attendance on this, the 9th PechaKucha Portsmouth Night. “Meals become exciting when you mix guests and expose them to a variety of styles and flavors,” said PechaKucha (PK) Portsmouth organizer Mike Teixeira. “PK and STREET 360’ do the same thing: one does it on the palette and one in the mind. This event at this place was the perfect combo meal.”

PK Night will feature eight local professionals; each will impart their unique vision and provocative interpretation on the topic through PechaKucha’s signature presentation style — 20 PowerPoint slides, with 20 seconds of explanation per slide, for a total of six minutes and 40 seconds. The PechaKucha presentation style creates an interesting challenge while providing a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

PechaKucha began in February 2003 in Tokyo as an event for young architects to meet, network, and show their work in public. Since that time, PK Nights have migrated to hundreds of cities around the world into conversations for all industries and disciplines to share a collective enthusiasm for ideas and celebration. “There is a great dichotomy here between the concise business presentation format and timing and the informal exuberance of sharing a passion with others,” said Teixeira.

The STREET eat/drink 360’ doors at 801 Islington Street will open to the PK Night at 6 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. sharp. PK Night is free and open to the public. For more information visit the event Facebook page or follow @nhpk on Twitter. To present at a future PechaKucha Portsmouth event, contact Calypso at 603-431-0816 or email pschmuhl@calypsocom.com.

Headrick, a former reporter and public relations agency leader, is charged with providing ongoing strategic counsel and execution for Calypso’s diverse roster of national and international clients.

“The role of communications has evolved radically in recent years, and it’s critical that we continue to provide clients with evolving, high-level expertise,” said Kevin Stickney, Calypso’s founder. “Parry has spent the last decade in the trenches with some of Silicon Valley’s most forward-looking companies, and he understands the challenges – and opportunities – in today’s communications landscape.”
Headrick spent the last six years as a director and vice president at SHIFT Communications in San Francisco, where he developed creative public relations and social media strategies for business-to-business and consumer clients alike, both public and privately held. Prior to SHIFT, Headrick served for four years in the public relations account management function at Sterling Hager, working on a range of high-tech clients in San Francisco and the greater Boston area. Before moving deeper into the public relations field, Headrick was a general assignment reporter at two daily newspapers in New England – the Lowell Sun and Waterbury Republican-American.
“This is an agency with both creative moxie and a firm grounding in traditional communications principles,” Headrick said. “I’m excited to join forces with Calypso at this upward stage of its growth, and look forward to helping clients put their competitors in their rearview mirrors.”

Calypso Communications (www.calypsocom.com), a strategic marketing and public relations firm today announces the upcoming Pecha Kucha Night (PKN), “Sakura: A Night of Creative Reawakening,” to be held this Thursday, May 26, 2011, in the third floor night club of the Portsmouth Gas Light Co. at 64 Market Street. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. The PKN event will collect donations that evening for Architecture for Humanity’s reconstruction efforts in Sendai, Japan.

“The word ‘sakura’ denotes not only the famous springtime cherry blossom season throughout Japan, but also the spirit of rebirth and renewal,” said Pecha Kucha organizer Mike Teixeira. “In light of the recent devastation in Japan from the earthquake and tsunami, we thought it was the perfect theme for the night’s presentations as a symbol of hope for Japan.”

PKN Sakura will feature local artists and innovators presenting on the over-arching themes of springtime, renewal, rebirth, reconstruction, and/or reawakening. The speaker line up for PKN Sakura includes Alfonso Fabrega, Pixel Media; Pam Ikegami, UNH Professor of Japanese Language and Culture; Matt Talbot, Illustrator; Lars Trodson, Roundtable Pictures; Jim Roldan, Illustrator; and Stephanie Cornell, Photographer. Each will bestow unique insight and thought provoking interpretation on their topic via Pecha Kucha’s signature presentation style: 20 PowerPoint slides, with 20 seconds of explanation per slide, for a total of six minutes and 40 seconds. The Pecha Kucha presentation style creates an interesting challenge while providing a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

“Our community has responded so strongly to these events in the past. They have been a source of insight, laughter, and new business connections and we are proud to be a part of it,” said Teixeira.

PKN Sakura is free and open to the public. For more information visit the event Facebook page or follow @nhpk on Twitter.
Calypso Communications (www.calypsocom.com), a full-service strategic marketing, corporate communications, and business development consultancy, recently expanded its creative services department with the appointment of Stephanie Cornell as the firm’s art director. With 15 years of experience in media, marketing, and public relations at both the national and international levels, Cornell will be responsible for visual direction and implementation across Calypso’s growing client roster of energy, healthcare, and technology clients.

Cornell comes to Calypso after four years in Asia where she worked as a copywriter and project manager with consumer electronics giants such as LG Electronics and Sony Corporation for public relations firm Burson-Marsteller in Seoul, South Korea, and Tokyo, Japan.

This international business perspective has refueled her design and adds valuable experience as Calypso continues to add to its international presence. Prior to her move to Asia, Cornell worked as a graphic designer and art director to create advertising, merchandising, and marketing tools for consumer retail, food, and healthcare clients.

“Energy is an international industry and having her global insight will be a huge benefit to our client base,” says Mike Teixeira, Calypso’s creative director. “She is one of those rare creative folks who excels in multiple disciplines. She writes like a photographer, shoots like a story-teller, and designs with a passion-backed intellect. I’m excited to have Stephanie on our team.”

Cornell also brings ten years of experience in television and film production, having worked on numerous television commercials and motion pictures. Most recently, Cornell produced two television programs in 2010 for broadcaster Discovery Channel Asia, including a documentary about Korean figure skater and Olympic gold medalist Yuna Kim.

Cornell holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film from Emerson College in Boston. She has recently relocated to Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Calypso Communications (www.calypsocom.com), a strategic marketing, corporate communications, and business development consultancy, today announces it was selected to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing campaign for the launch of Boston’s new Waterworks Museum (www.waterworksmuseum.org). The campaign will leverage Web and social media platforms as well as partnerships with other local museums and educational institutions to engage volunteers and drive support affordably and efficiently. Calypso will collaborate with the project’s lead agency Graphic Details (www.graphicdet.com), which designed the museum’s logo and website.

“Portsmouth offers the highest caliber talent in marketing, design, and public relations – typically at more reasonable rates than similar agencies based in the Boston,” said Calypso’s vice president Sharon Delaney. “We’re thrilled to partner with Graphic Details on this project and look forward to continuing to provide the Museum with marketing support following its March 2011 grand opening.”

The 22,000 sq. ft. Waterworks Museum is located at 2450 Beacon Street on the site of the historic Chestnut Hill Reservoir and High Service Pumping Station. The Museum is home to a number of collections that preserve the history and traditions of the Boston region, including three steam-powered pumping engines, each standing more than three stories high, which provided the rapidly growing metropolitan area with clean, portable water at the turn of the 20th century. It also provides a variety of hands-on educational experiences in history, science, engineering, and technology, from both self- and staff-guided tours and expert-led lectures to school field trips and teacher professional development workshops. The grand opening of the Waterworks Museum in Chestnut Hill is scheduled for Sunday, March 27, 2011.
