Calypso Communications Partners with National Healthcare Initiative to Create Web-Based Grassroots Campaign

Calypso Communications, a full-service marketing, public relations, and graphic design firm based in Portsmouth, recently designed and developed the web-based platform for the “Say ‘Yes’ to Health Reform” (www.sayyestohealthreform.com) national online video campaign. Calypso implemented efficient, open-sourced blogging software to make possible the 50-state collaborative effort by the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) to illustrate broad public support for addressing the chronic disease crisis in the United States.

“Calypso’s work with the initiative leveraged web-based networking tools like Vimeo to demonstrate the flexibility of social media and the ability of such sites to support complex, multi-user campaigns,” said Mike Teixeira, creative director for Calypso. “Since the PFCD wanted to quickly elevate its presence in the healthcare reform debate, a micro-site built on these technologies was the perfect solution.”

The “Say ‘Yes’ to Health Reform” campaign is a grassroots effort that aims to bring awareness to the United States’ chronic disease crisis and the impact it has on the American people. The site streams video testimonials from citizens affected by chronic disease discussing their support for comprehensive health reform that improves affordability, access, and quality. These numerous, diverse individuals demonstrate the extensive reach of chronic disease management and prevention issues throughout the nation.

“The “Say ‘Yes’ to Health Reform” micro-site humanizes the issues our country is having with chronic disease,” said Paul Young, Calypso founder. It allows our nation’s policymakers to step back from the intensity of the debate in Washington and see the individual faces and voices behind the fight for improved chronic disease management and prevention nationwide.”

To date the “Say ‘Yes’ to Health Reform” campaign website houses more than 100 video testimonials from residents throughout the 17 states in which the PFCD has chapters: Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Washington, and Wisconsin. Additional videos will be continuously uploaded and sent to representative Congressional members for the duration of the health reform debate. Zero Carbon Systems Engages Calypso Communications

Calypso Communications (www.calypsocom.com), a full-service marketing, public relations, and design agency, today announces its recent selection by Portsmouth-based Zero Carbon Systems for its strategic marketing expertise. Calypso will create the energy efficiency management firm’s visual brand identity and develop both print and online marketing tools as it prepares for international expansion.

“We provide a full complement of energy efficient solutions to the commercial, education, and government markets designed to reduce a property’s energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions,” said Ed Paslawski, founder and chairman of Zero Carbon Systems. “Calypso was selected to help us create our logo, collateral, and website because of its vast experience in the branding and alternate energy arena.”

Through the use of the Hallowell Commercial Combined Heating and Cooling System, Zero Carbon Systems works directly with clients to lower their heating and cooling expenses while virtually eliminating their carbon footprint. Zero Carbon Systems is the only commercial provider of this patented technology, which saves users up to 80 percent in monthly energy-related expenses.

“There is nothing like the Hallowell commercial system,” stated Jody Flynn, president of Zero Carbon Systems. “This system is the winner of the 2007 Dealer Design Award and the 2008 AHR Innovation Award. Every unit eliminates 7,000 pounds of greenhouse gases annually. With 300 percent efficiencies versus a natural gas maximum of 95 percent, this strategy leads the industry in all categories of heating and cooling solutions including geothermal.”

The Hallowell unit, when paired with Solar PV panels or other renewable energy sources, entirely eliminates a property’s HVAC greenhouse gas emissions.

Energy efficiency surveys and custom-designed solutions that include the integration and installation of solar photovoltaic panels, small wind turbines, weatherization and insulation, and high efficiency lighting and hot water systems are among the services offered by Zero Carbon Systems.

“Zero Carbon Systems successfully combines unique technology, knowledge, and entrepreneurialism in a way that will benefit both business and environment,” said Sharon Delaney, Calypso vice president of client services. “Calypso thrives on working with unique solutions providers in the world of sustainable energy. We are proud to assist this innovative company in its positioning for North American growth.”

Calypso’s environmental clients include industry leaders in clean coal, independent power, waste-to-energy, and other renewable energy fields, as well as early-stage startups in cellulosic ethanol, biodiesel, tidal power, thin-film solar technology, and geothermal energy. The agency’s services for startup and early-stage clients typically encompass strategic business plan research, writing, and development; branding; interactive, web, and new media campaigns; and investor, analyst, and customer communications.

Digital Data Security Leader BackStopp™ Taps Calypso

Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based Calypso Communications, a full-service marketing, public relations, and graphic design firm, recently was selected by BackStopp USA, also based in Portsmouth with affiliates in Sheffield, United Kingdom, to provide product brand management, retail packaging design, and strategic marketing services for its innovative suite of data security and destruction products.

Backstopp allows organizations and individuals to execute the remote deletion of data files on any lost or stolen PC, laptop, PDA, or mobile phone through mobile networks, the Internet, or with radio-frequency identification (RFID). The technology employs U.S. Department of Defense standards to ensure the rapid and comprehensive destruction of targeted data; using BackStopp, the average laptop is cleansed in just 100 seconds.

BackStopp is always “on,” regardless of Internet connectivity, integrating culprit identification capability with volume-based file encryption and a secure online backup service so data can be easily reloaded onto new devices. Of specific interest to corporate, institutional, and governmental clients, the company’s software can inform BackStopp when a device with wireless or RFID capabilities moves outside permitted areas. BackStopp will then either automatically decommission the device or alert the legitimate user by text message.

BackStopp also includes a “Device Holiday” feature that specifies legitimate dates for a laptop to be turned off. If activated too early, Backstopp will either delete the data or send a text alert. Devices with webcams even allow BackStopp to photograph culprits.

BackStopp USA President and Founder Regan McCarthy is enthusiastic about partnering with Calypso in marketing his products throughout North America. “Calypso is extremely creative and has been immensely successful in marketing high technology firms,” he noted. “Entrepreneurs must create strong and compelling brand identities to establish competitive awareness. At the same time, they have to guard cash flow and expenses. Calypso understands this situation and is a committed partner to our success.”

Calypso Founder Kevin Stickney is equally pleased with the new relationship, noting, “Regan and his team at BackStopp are rapidly changing the game in data security for both individuals and for organizations of all sizes. We’re excited to be a part of an elite new standard for safe personal and professional data practices.”

Calypso Communications to Provide Pro-Bono Services For New Boy Scouts Endeavor

Calypso Communications, a full-service marketing, public relations, and design firm headquartered in downtown Portsmouth, has volunteered its services to the Daniel Webster Council of the Boy Scouts of America for an innovative new fundraising initiative planned for this summer. The Scouts will be celebrating the organization’s adventurous side and its 100th year anniversary with an event sure to shake up New Hampshire. Partnering with Over the Edge, a North American fundraising organization, the Council is planning Xtreme Descent 2009, an August 15th rappelling journey down the side of a Manchester office building. All proceeds from Xtreme Descent will benefit the many programs of the Daniel Webster Council.

Over the Edge – Testing the Ropes from Mike Teixeira on Vimeo.

The fundraiser will take place at the 24-story Brady Sullivan High-Rise at 1000 Elm Street, Manchester, New Hampshire. Calypso Communications will develop fundraising, promotional, and marketing materials, including a logo for Xtreme Descent, as well as provide public and media relations throughout the region.

This is not the first time the Boy Scouts have collaborated with Calypso. Last autumn, Calypso Communications generated fundraising materials and public relations efforts to promote the New Hampshire Moose Parade, a unique event that culminated in a black-tie gala where elaborately painted moose statues were auctioned off. All proceeds from that event also benefited the diverse youth and educational programs of the Daniel Webster Council.

“We are always delighted to work with the Daniel Webster Council on behalf of the young people and great programs it supports throughout New Hampshire,” shared Kevin Stickney, founder and president of Calypso. “We had a lot of fun and success last year and we hope to repeat that experience with Xtreme Descent. The Council and its leaders are highly unique and creative in developing fundraising opportunities.”

Mike Kaufman, scout executive, expressed similar enthusiasm. “When we got the chance to exclusive rights to the Over the Edge experience in our state, we had to take it,” explained Kaufman. “We chose to work with Calypso Communications because of their creative energy and enthusiasm, which will be reflected in the materials they design. We chose Over the Edge because of its tremendous 20-year record of pulling these events off safely. The equipment, practices, and procedures that they use are approved by Federal and State OSHA, Workers Compensation, and Industrial Rope Access Trade Association.”

Businesses and individuals interested in “going Over the Edge” by sponsoring or participating in Xtreme Descent may visit www.XtremeDescent.org, or call Joe Wiltrout, director of finance services for the Daniel Webster Council, at 603-625-6431 ext.117. Pecha Kucha Night Comes To Portsmouth For A Second Time

Mike Teixeira, of Calypso Communications, and Jamila Taylor, of Latona Associates, today announced they will host Portsmouth’s second Pecha Kucha Night on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the Portsmouth Gas Light Co., 64 Market Street, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Presentations start at 7 p.m. in the third floor nightclub. The evening will begin on the deck with drink and food specials from 5-6 p.m. with networking continuing until 7 p.m. The internationally acclaimed event brings together professionals from a variety of industries, melding the business and design worlds with its unique style and ground-breaking concept.

The term “pecha kucha” originates from the Japanese language meaning, “the sound of conversation.” The format allows speakers only 20 PowerPoint slides and 20 seconds of description per slide, a mere 6 minutes and 40 seconds each, to capture audience interest and deliver their message. This style encourages speakers to engage the audience in dialog rather than read from each slide, keeping energy high and eliminating the tedious and time-consuming nature typical to slide presentations of the past. Pecha Kucha Night promotes a creative platform based on the intersection of business and design and stimulates viewers through its precise and innovative methods that deliver compelling messages.

Moderated by Calypso’s Teixeira and Latona’s Taylor, the event will feature several speakers who will use global Pecha Kucka Night guidelines to deliver presentations on a variety of subjects. Topic selection is unlimited for participants, as long as regulatory guidelines are followed. “January’s Pecha Kucha Night proved to be a huge success and was really a sight to see,” said Teixeira. “The nontraditional format left everyone wanting more and we’re more than happy to give that to them.”

Conceived in 2003 by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham Architecture in Tokyo, Japan, Pecha Kucha Night was developed as an event that allowed young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. The unique format separates Pecha Kucha from typical business events, creating an opportunity for the creative community and the business world to share ideas. Pecha Kucha Night is now held in nearly 200 cities across the globe. Many universities and corporations have incorporated the time-saving method into curriculums and board rooms as a means of refocusing presenters on their messages and engaging the audience. Pecha Kucha continues to revolutionize interpersonal communication as it spreads across the globe, entering new cities and reaching new audiences each year.

“It’s exciting to bring such a unique, global event to Portsmouth,” said Taylor. “The Gas Light’s relaxed, lounge atmosphere makes it an ideal venue to encourage the open communication concept that is the basis of the event. Mike and I are anxious to see what the second Pecha Kucha Night has in store and encourage everyone to come out and experience it for themselves.”

The event is free and open to the general public. For further information on attending or presenting at this or future Pecha Kucha events, please contact Mike Teixeira at 603-431-0816 or visit www.calypsocom.com.

About Pecha Kucha
Pecha Kucha (Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown. This concept has a grown into global demand “without any pushing” as Pecha Kucha Night has spread virally to more than 200 cities across the world.
